Question:

Amtrak from Cincinnati to Seattle... (and how do I ship my pets?)?

I'm thinking about taking the train from Cincinnati to Seattle next year. I'm not a big fan of flying and I'd love to ride the train for the views and all. I just have a few questions.

1) Are there power outlets in the roomettes?

2) What is there to do in the 4 hour layover in Chicago?

3) How much baggage am I allowed (I'm moving my entire life to go to school)

4) The pet issue: I have a rabbit. She'll be just over a year old when I leave. What's the best way to transport her? I know that flying would cure this issue but, like I said, I'd rather not fly for reasons I'm embarrassed to admit.

  1. You should be able to find the answers to all your questions on the Amtrak web site: www.amtrak.com.

But I might be able to answer some of the questions.

    1) I don't remember seeing an power outlet in our tiny roomette, though I <think> the larger compartments have one.

    2) Depends on how much walking you want to do.  The station is in the downtown area with lots of stores nearby.  But any carry-on luggage needs to be in a locker before walking off!  Else it'll be stolen...

The rest of your questions will have to be answered by Amtrak, though I do have a suggestion about the rabbit - buy a  pet carrier  for her.
