  1. 1. the golden rule of boxing is protect yourself at all times. no matter what saftey procautions there are suposed to be you cannot rely on the rules to protect you. watch the movie million dollar baby. no example is better that I can think of.

here are all of the rules that can be found in an amateur boxing passbook...

    Contestant Guidelines

Competition for both male & female boxers shall be conducted in compliance with all USA Booing’s Technical Rules, specific to male, female, and/or both. Male boxers shall be limited to participation between males and female boxers shall be limited to participation between females. All boxers must register under their own name with USA Boxing and compete in their respective age and weight categories.

-Boxers must be registered with the LBC in which they reside and have passed as physically sound by the attending examining physician immediately before and after the contest.

-A boxer may not represent a club or organization that is not a member of an LBC or USA Boxing. Any boxer who boxes for a club organization, which is not a registered member of the LBC, must enter the contest as "unattached".

-Boxers must report to the clerk at the time specified on the entry blank (form) or other notice(s).

-No boxer shall be permitted to participate in any amateur contest conducted or sanctioned by USA Boxing on more than two days in any seven, expect in regularly sanctioned tournaments requiring two or more days to compete. No boxer will be aloud to box more than once per calendar day and, in no case, sooner than 12 hours from their previous bout.

-Any boxer who participates in any unsanctioned contest or tournament or in a tough man, wild man, barroom brawl or any similar competition that is never sanctioned by USA Boxing is automatically disqualified.

    Braces

Boxers who wish to compete with braces are required to have attached to their passbooks a completed "release to compete w/braces" form. This form requires written approval of their dentist, parent, and/or legal guardian (if under the age of 18) and a dentist-molded mouthpiece. This includes upper and/or lower braces. Boxers competing with braces waive the right to dental coverage under the USA Boxing insurance program.

    Scoring Blows

During each round, a judge shall assess the respective scores of each boxer according to the number of blows recorded by each on the tally counters. Each blow to have scoring value must land directly with the knuckle portion of the glove w/out being blocked or guarded with the weight of the body behind it on any part of the front or sides of the head or body above the belt of his or her opponent. The value of blows shall be credited to the boxer who has had the better of the exchanges according to the degree of said boxer’s superiority.

    Non-scoring blows

-whiles infringing on any of the rules

-with the side, heel, or inside of the glove or with the open glove or any part other than the knuckle part of the closed glove

    -Which lands on the arm.

-which merely connect w/out the weight of the body or shoulder

    Ring name or nicknames

All boxers must enter and compete in all boxing contests or tournaments under their own name. The use of a ring name or nickname is strictly prohibited.

    Shaking of hands

As a sign of good sportsmanship, boxers touch gloves before the beginning of the first round and after the decision has been announced. Boxers shall not touch gloves at any other time.

    Cautions

A caution is in the nature of advice or admonishment by the referee to the boxer to check or prevent undesirable practices or less serious infringement of the rules.

    Warnings

If a boxer infringes on the rules but does not merit a disqualification for such an infringement, the referee shall stop the contest and issue a warning to the offender.

A boxer given 3 warnings in a single contest shall be disqualified.

A boxer can be disqualified before the decision is announced

A boxer will be disqualified if the infringement was an intentional harm foul.

A boxer who fails to comply immediately with the referee’s orders or behaves in an offensive or aggressive manner at any time will be disqualified.

A boxer can be disqualified w/out a previous warning.

    8-counts

If a boxer receives an 8-count, he/she must demonstrate that he/she is ready to compete after the count is given. If the boxer downs his/her opponent, he/she must immediately go to the neutral corner until the referee gives the command “box”. If boxer does not go to the neutral corner on the command of the referee, the referee shall stop the count until the said boxer has done so.

    Mouthpiece

When a mouthpiece is knocked out of the boxer’s mouth as a result of a legal blow or series of legal blows, the referee will “stop” the bout and escort the boxer and mouthpiece to said boxer’s corner where the mouthpiece will be washed (rinsed). A coach will replace the mouthpiece in the boxer’s mouth after such a rinsing. The referee will then issue a caution.

If a boxer deliberately spits the mouthpiece out without receiving a blow, the referee will issue a warning to the offending boxer.

A boxer who loses the mouthpiece more than once (for any reason), will have it washed and returned but will receive a “warning” for each such loss after the first time.

If a boxer carries the mouthpiece halfway outside of his mouth, said boxer will be “cautioned” to reinsert it. A second offense will carry out another caution. A third offense will require an official “warning”.

    Properly Attired Boxer

The wearing of tights is allowed but must not extend lower than the trunks

    9. The belt-line of the trunks shall not extend above the waistline. The waistline is defined as an imaginary horizontal line through the navel to the top of the hips.

    10. Socks may be of any color and may extend within one inch below the knee.

  2. Head Guard.

    Gloves.

    Gum shield.

Doctor must be present at all fights.

Referee is present to stop the fight if he believes a fighter is in physical danger.

There are loads of numerous other rules however boxing is boxing at the end of the day. With amateur boxing you are much more protection with the head guard being the key difference.

The emphasis is much more directly on scoring points with clean hits rather then knocking you opponent out.
