Amv (anime music videos)

Question

Can people really get in trouble for it? (I live in the USA) What if they use clips from JAPANESE versions? And why would they allow sites that give out downloads to the anime shows, wouldn't they remove it or fine them? I'm VERY confused, I made an amv for my friends for entertainment, I'm really worried about getting fined, my parents will never be able to afford it, please answer!

its a gray area. japanese companies are not willing to spend the time and money to stop the proliferation of their shows on sites that carry them for download.

and the american companies (that have the licenses) do not clamp down, because they know that it only helps to promote their series, anyway.

what may hurt you is the music companies that will clamp down, but the haven't done so, so its not really a worry these days.
