Amy Alcott happy about role at Fresh & Easy Charity Pro-Am
Amy Alcott, who led ten LPGA Hall of Famers in the Fresh & Easy Charity Pro-Am, said that she was happy to take the role of organizing the event.
Alcott, a native of Kansas City, Missouri, has been a prominent figure on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour for years.
She racked up 5 major tournaments — a feat that has helped her eclipse the popularity of most of the big names in women’s professional golf circuit.
The Fresh & Easy Charity Pro-Am was held before the first major title of the season — the Kraft Nabisco Championship.
Alcott was thrilled to lead some of the finest players on the LPGA. In addition to playing as the captain, the 56-year-old veteran was also part of the organising team of the tournament.
Speaking to the media following successful staging of the Fresh & Easy Charity Pro-Am, Alcott said that she had mapped out a viable plan for the event, as the officials paid more attention to rising players than the Hall of Famers.
The Kraft Nabisco Championship was very important for Alcott, as she won the 1988 edition of the event.
She said that the Fresh & Easy Charity Pro-Am was a challenge for her, but thanks to Tim Mason’s cooperation, the event went amazingly well.
The field of the tournament was strong enough. It featured Kathy Whitworth, Patty Sheehan, Hollis Stacy, Sandra Palmer, Pat Bradley, Donna Caponi, JoAnne Carner, Beth Daniel, Betsy King, Nancy Lopez, Meg Mallon, Patricia Meunier-Lebouc and Liselotte Neumann.
Alcott said that she had a great time with the LPGA stars. “It was our second annual, actually, Fresh & Easy Charity Pro‑Am, where I brought back 18 of the great legends in women's golf,” she said.
“The people that I get stopped all the time in airports by people saying we loved following you and Pat Bradley and Hollis Stacy and Betsy King, and all the great stars, Nancy Lopez, the list goes on. What are they doing now? And I get stopped constantly
about that”.
Amy Alcott is one of the greatest LPGA players and has been associated with the Tour since 1975. She rose to prominence when she became the member of the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1999.
