Amy Boulden happy to be selected for the 2012 Curtis Cup
Amy Boulden is happy to find a place in the Great Britain & Ireland, as she said that she will try to do her best in the Curtis Cup, slated to begin from June 8 to 10, at The Nairn Golf Club, Scotland.
Amy Boulden is the only Welsh golfer chosen to represent the Great Britain & Ireland against the United States.
According to the officials, amateur Becky Harries, who also belongs to Wales, is on the reserve.
The representation of Welsh players in the GB&I squad has been under discussions for a long time. However, analysts said that this year’s Cup is going to see a much heavier representation of Wales.
The captain of GB&I is Tegwen Matthews, who also hails from Wales. Moreover, the country has also representation in the Cup’s management, as Anna Hubbard is currently working as the Team Manager.
Boulden’s participation will mean that the field for this year’s Curtis Cup is stronger than it was in the last edition.
The GB&I has been struggling to regain its credibility in the Cup, as it has not been able to win a title since the last seven years.
Ben Waterhouse, who is the Performance Director of Golf Union of Wales, said that a considerable representation of Welsh players in the Curtis Cup will prove productive for the Great Britain & Ireland.
He said that golf fans in Wales are happy to see Amy Boulden in the GB&I squad. He said that the team needed to boost its morale, and taking Welsh players on board will do exactly that.
“It is great to see a strong Welsh contingent involved in this year's Curtis Cup,” Ben Waterhouse said.
He said that Wales has been producing competent players for a long time now, but the true potential of the players has not been utilised.
He expressed his hope that Boulden will try to help the GB&I end the Curtis Cup drought.
“Congratulations are obviously due to Amy whose strong play over the last two seasons demanded a place. It is testament to her ability and hard work, but also all those involved in the Welsh golfing system who have played a part along the way,” Waterhouse
said.
