Amy Bowtell defeats Lucy Brown to move into last four – Loughborough Challenger 2011
Lucy Brown (Great Britain) and Amy Bowtell (Ireland) played their quarterfinal matches of the women’s singles competition of the 2011 AEGON Loughborough Challenger on November 11, 2011. Bowtell won the match 7-5, 0-6, 7-6(5).
Irish player, Bowtell, scored eight aces in the match and conceded double faults thrice. Brown, on the other hand, could score only a single ace but had five double faults.
As the first set began, the Irish world number 598th scored two aces in the set with two double faults. Her opponent, the 562nd ranked delivered a single ace but conceded double faults five times in the set.
Bowtell had a 68% first serve winning ratio while Brown had a 57% rate. The Irish player scored 64% points from her first serve and 50% from her second serve.
Brown, on the other hand, scored 57% points from her first serve and 44% from her second. Both players could not defend their service games either.
Bowtell could save four out of the six breakpoints she faced while Brown was able to save only five out of the eight breakpoints she faced. Bowtell maintained a lead of two games when Brown won five games. Bowtell won the first
set 7-5.
With the second set in progress, Brown took an early lead and maintained her dominance until the end of the set. She did not deliver any ace and did not concede any double fault either. Brown won 77% points from her first serve
and 50% from her second.
The Irish was much lower with her first serve as she could only win 40% and with her second serve, she was unable to win any points.
Brown was flawless in her service games in the second set, as she did not let Bowtell any chance to break her serves. The Irish player, on the other hand, could only win a single breakpoint out of the four she faced.
Bowtell was not fighting at all in the second set, as she was unable to win any game. Brown kept the lead growing and restricted her opponent in winning any game. Brown won the second set 6-0.
As the match entered into the third set, both players were looking for a win. Brown was eyeing another humiliating win in the third set but Bowtell would not let that happen again. Bowtell made a decent comeback as she scored five
aces and conceded a double fault once.
Brown could not score an ace and played cautious shots, which is why she did not concede any double faults either.
The two players were not providing any room for their opponents to take a lead. Brown had a 64% first serve winning ratio while Bowtell secured a 53% rate. They were also equal in winning points from their first serve as Brown
won 64% points and Bowtell won 63%.
Brown could save two out of her three breakpoints while the Irish saved one breakpoint out of her two.
With the third set entering into a tiebreaker, it was evident that neither of the two players faltered behind. Bowtell made a nice recovery after her second set debacle. The Irish won the third set 7-6(5) and cruised into the semi
finals of the 2011 AEGON Loughborough Challenger.
