Amy Forrester clinches Girls 200m backstroke gold: Day two – Australian Age Championships, Brisbane
Amy Forrester clinched gold medal of the Girl’s 200m backstroke in the age group of 14 Year Olds on day two of the 2012 Australian Age Championships on Tuesday, April 10 at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre.
Forrester’s challengers capitulated as they failed to withstand her ruthless aggression in the four-lap backstroke discipline. With her phenomenal efforts and mind-blowing strategy, she faced no trouble in snaring top finishing spot of the event.
Forrester sprinted her way towards the finishing wall as gold medallist of the discipline by posting a time of 2 minutes and 14.05 seconds.
Her scintillating effort in a lead of nearly four seconds over Stanley Whittaker of Surrey Park, who stepped on the victory stand for second position as she produced a time of 2 minutes and 18.03 seconds for silver medal.
Whittaker was chased by Emily Steer of Galston, who stayed 0.78 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and transpired on the finishing end for bronze medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 18.81 seconds.
Steer was chased by Michaela Hokin of Mount Annan, who proved her eligibility for the fourth position of the discipline by posting a time of 2 minutes and 22.09 seconds.
Subsequently, Nicholas Groenewald of Nunawading ended first in the Boys 14 Year Olds 200m backstroke. Groenewald stayed considerably faster from his fellow swimmers and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 05.36 seconds for gold medal.
His stupendous effort remained almost four seconds ahead of Kingscliff’s Tristan Ludlow, who cemented his place on the podium by occupying silver medal of the discipline by posting a time of 2 minutes and 09.37 seconds.
Ludlow was chased by City of Perth’s Damian Fyfe, who tapped the wall for third position by posting a time of 2 minutes and 10.38 seconds. Fyfe was chased by Max Carleton of East Brisbane, who earned fourth spot of the race by posting 2 minutes and 12.30
seconds.
In addition, the session came to an end after the completion of all planned events while the podium finishers were awarded medal at medal ceremony of the championship.
