Amy Levings secures Women’s 400m freestyle gold: Day three - Oceania Swimming Championships
Amy Levings of Australia secured gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle on day three of the 2012 Oceania Swimming Championships in Noumea, New Caledonia on Thursday, May 31.
The Australian swimmer lived up to the expectations of her supporters by winning gold medal of the event. With her epic pace, she remained comfortably ahead of her opponents and hit the finishing end for gold medal.
She continued her astounding efforts in the eight-lap discipline and ended her sprint in a time of 4 minutes and 16.50 seconds for the title of the event.
The gold medallist was followed by her team-member, Emily Seymour, who suffered a deficit of nearly sixteen seconds and reached the medal rostrum for silver medal by posting a time of 4 minutes and 32.12 seconds.
Third fastest spot of the event was secured by Lena Hayakawa of Hawaii, who was almost eight seconds apart and settled on the finishing wall for bronze medal with the timing of 4 minutes and 40.13 seconds.
Hayakawa was chased by Maeva Parayre of France, who stayed 1.07 seconds away from upsetting her preceding swimmer and hit the finishing end with the timing of 4 minutes and 41.20 seconds.
Fifth best spot of the event was secured by Matelita Buadromo of Fiji Islands, who remained considerably slower from her former finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 52.02 seconds.
Buadromo was trailed by Alix Barrois of France, who occupied sixth best spot of the event by producing a time of 4 minutes and 53.08 seconds.
Seventh position of the discipline was secured by Amanda Poppe of Guam, who finished her race with the timing of 5 minutes and 12.69 seconds.
Similarly, Poppe enjoyed an advantage of nearly twelve seconds over Kainsimere Naivalu of Fiji Islands, who secured eighth position of the discipline by submitting a time of 5 minutes and 23.11 seconds.
Furthermore, the session came to an end after the completion of all scheduled events in Men and Women’s corner while the position holders were awarded accolades at the medal ceremony of the tournament.
