Amy Smith seizes Women’s 200m butterfly gold – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Amy Smith of St Peters Western Swim Club seized gold medal of the Women’s 200m butterfly on first day of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Wednesday, September 12.
The 22-year-old Smith stunned the aquatic crowd with her phenomenal form in the distant butterfly discipline, where she elevated her efforts and touched the wall for the title.
With her unrelenting efforts, Smith remained considerably ahead of her toughest challenger and made her way to the finishing blockade for first position with a timing of 2 minutes and 07.42 seconds.
Smith was chased by the fastest qualifying swimmer, Brianna Throssell of Perth City, who was unable to sustain her spot and finished second in the race by touching the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 09.21 seconds.
Throssell was traced by Madeline Groves of St Peters Western Swim Club, who stayed 0.70 seconds apart and touched the wall for bronze medal with a timing of 2 minutes and 09.91 seconds.
Fourth best position of the race was obtained by Jordan White of Cranbrook, who stayed 0.62 seconds slower and settled on the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 10.53 seconds.
White was chased by Jackie Staples of Norwood, SA, who stayed one body length behind and sprinted her way towards the finishing wall as fifth best finisher with a timing of 2 minutes and 10.80 seconds.
Sixth best spot of the event was obtained by Megan Gianotti of Waterworx, QLD, who stayed 0.24 seconds apart and touched the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 11.04 seconds for sixth position.
Gianotti was traced by Alanna Bowles of Rocky City, who remained more than a half body length behind and touched the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 11.71 seconds.
Last position of the swim was obtained by Nicole Mee of Cranbrook, who was only 0.17 seconds behind and finished her race in eighth best place by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 11.88 seconds.
Furthermore, Smith expressed happiness over her gold winning effort at the victory ceremony of the event.
