Amy Suleiman wins Women’s Cleveland Amateur Golf Championship
Amy Suleiman fired a four-under par 68 in the second and final round of the 2012 Women’s Cleveland Amateur Golf Championship to take the title home on August 5, 2012.
It was a sensational display of the game by the Ohio State graduate, as she bounced back strongly after an opening round 74. Her overall score at the end of the tournament was two-under par 142.
Tegan Skirptas took the second position with a one-over par overall score. Madison Musick, Abby Tepe and Holly James were further six strokes back and shared the third spot on the leaderboard.
Suleiman, who is the Director of Operations for Clear Choice Connections in Middleburg Heights, also registered a course record during last month’s Suburban Ladies Golf Association's President's Tournament.
The tournament was held at the Grantwood Golf Course in Solon where she posted seven birdies and an amazing eagle against two bogeys for a seven-under 64.
This time, she once again outshined her opponents with another great run in the final round and what a time it was to record the victory – it was her 37th birthday.
While talking to the Northeast Ohio, she told that she never played golf until she started going to her college. Prior to that, she used to work as a stock broker.
Moreover, she never hired a professional teacher or took golf lessons since she entered the sport.
“I didn't start until after I got out of college,” she said. “I was a stock broker and it seemed like the thing to do. So, I guess it's been about 15 years. I just kind of watched my friends. I've never had a series of lessons, maybe a half dozen since I started”.
She told that she always tried to practice by herself and spent plenty of time on the practice range until she found her drives going the way she wanted.
“Go to the range, get a large bucket of balls and beat myself up pretty good until I get straightened out,” she explained.
She now aims to participate in the US Mid-Am qualifier at the Country Club of Hudson.
