Amy Yang finishes second in the US Women's Open 2012
South Korean Amy Yang, who has been seeking to record her first LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) victory since turning professional in 2006, stunned the spectators in the final round of the US Women’s Open 2012 after she shot a 71 to finish second on the leaderboard.
Yang has been a star performer on the Ladies European Tour (LET), having racked up three titles so far. However, she has not been able win any LPGA tournaments, which sometimes seems to cloud her credibility.
The South Korean star, despite what her critics say, got off to a solid start and troubled several big names in the field.
Analysts said that the 22-year-old player has won favour of most of the golf fans around the world, as she came close to beating the leader Na Yeon Choi of South Korea.
Although she could not maintain her momentum in the final round of the third major event of the current season, she still remained strong and kept her rivals at a distance.
Yang displayed a superb performance in the third round, as she posted a 69.
Commentators said that the South Korean golfer has proved her mettle, which reflects that she will further boost her confidence in the upcoming LPGA events.
They said that she did not appear to be fazed by formidable field that featured players like current world number one Yani Tseng, Stacy Lewis, Paula Creamer, Suzann Pettersen, Lexi Thompson, Shanshan Feng, Ai Miyazato, Cristie Kerr, Mika Miyazato, Sandra Gal, Se Ri Pak and Inbee Park.
Speaking to the media about how she feels after finishing second in the major tournament, Yang said that she could not help smiling when she saw her name in the top 5 on the leaderboard.
Yang said that she is satisfied with what she did in the final round. Registering a 71, the young prodigy said, kept her in contention and she finished the tournament as a star performer.
“You know, I think I had good round today. 1-under par. It was very tough out there. I tried my best. Yeah, it was a fun day,” Yang said.
“I learned a lot. It gives me a lot of confidence that I came in second this week. My game is feeling pretty good and I'm going to keep trying hard”.
