Amy Yang making headway
South Korean Amy Yang’s record on the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) may have been unimpressive, but she appears to have toughened up as she did well at the Navistar LPGA Classic
2012.
The Navistar LPGA Classic 2012, despite featuring some of the greatest players on the LPGA Tour, such as current world number one Yani Tseng, Stacy Lewis of the United States, Brittany Lincicome
and Cristie Kerr, saw lesser-known players do well as they managed to take several positions inside the top 50.
Yang made perfect strokes on the greens and did not let her nearest rivals rattle her. She got off to a good start as she posted a 69 in the opening round. Having carded an overall score of
279, she finished tied for the 21st position on the leaderboard.
There was added pressure on the South Korean because the tournament was staged on U.S. soil at the Prattville, Alabama, United States. Although the Navistar LPGA Classic roster featured plenty
of Asian players, Americans remained firm as they capitalised on the advantage of home crowd and they did fine this time.
Stacy Lewis, who is regarded as the best player in the United States, hampered her Asian rivals from moving ahead as she grabbed a two-stroke victory against defending champion Lexi Thompson.
Observers said that the fast-learning South Korean star has already put together quite a stunning profile heading into the current season. Although she has not been able to win an LPGA event
so far, she has a flair for improving and making a name for herself.
“You know, playing on the LPGA Tour was my dream like since I started to play golf, and I always wanted to have a win on the LPGA Tour. I think the difference ‑‑ all the greatest players are
here playing on the LPGA Tour. I think it's more stronger field, and I think I have to be mentally more stronger,” she told in one of her interviews.
Despite struggling to prove her mettle on the LPGA Tour, Yang appears to have done well on the Ladies European Tour (LET) as she has won three tournaments so far. In addition to the LET, she
has also racked up one title on the LPGA of Korea Tour.
