Hi, I'm 18 and I just started taking Amytriptoline for tension headaches. Each morning since I've been taking the pill I've woke up with numb hands exactly from the wrist down. What is going on?

  1. This is one of the symptoms of the drug. In medical terminology it is generally referred to as paraesthesia. Go see your doctor and let them know about the numb hands, it can be a sign that something more serious is occurring. The drug Amitriptyline can (in some cases) cause peripheral neuropathy, which means damage to the nerves in the peripheral nervous system (the nerves which are not part of the spine or brain). The best thing for you to do is to see your General practitioner and find out exactly what is wrong.
