An 11 year old with all apple things

he has a macbook pro that is 2,799 and an 16gb iphone 3g.he also has a 32gb ipod touch and 160gb ipod classic.he also has apple tv.he has 10 movies and 5,000 songs.he also has skins for everythinghe also has an iphone bluethooth. i feel bad about buying him all of that.would you buy your kid all of that.if not if you were me what would you do.

make him earn it. if everything in his life is handed to him and he never has to work for anything he won't develop a work ethic or the desire to work for things he will just expect them to be given to him.

Trust me on this one. At some point in his life he will just assume that he is entitled to anything he wants and that its your duty to provide. Children who are used to having whatever they want handed to them also tend to take advantage of their parents long after they should be independent. Sometimes they use their parent's credit without their consent and cause serious problems. You have time to teach your son responsibility.

If you can afford those things and enjoy giving them to him, find extra chores or something for him to do to earn at least some future items. Let him see that acquiring things and working hard to pay for them go hand in hand. You don't have to be a slave driver but he needs to equate earning with acquiring. He will also have pride in knowing he earned it when he gets something new.
