Can Boeing or Airbus build a much larger plane with a cabin length of 120 meters, cabin width of 15 meters. .Let us say twin or triple decker. Can it fly? just curious because on record Hendenberg Zeppelin, a balloon, is the largest/longest with 800 ft length.

  1. Yes. In fact, Airbus in planning to sell an extended version of the A380 that will have a higher maximum take-off weight than the An-225. While it would still have a shorter wingspan and length, the higher max weight would make it the new "largest aircraft". Aircraft will continue to grow as long as it makes economic sense. The more people you can carry, the better as this allows you to move more people (and sell more tickets) per trip. This cuts cost. This is the whole idea behind jumbo jets in the first place. Zeppelin-sized jets are unlikely, as that would be very difficult to handle at airports, but seaplanes utilizing ground effect (look up "ekranoplanes") could be built at enormous scales to carry huge numbers of passengers and cargo between ports. We will undoubtably see larger aircraft but exactly how much larger or how they'll be used is yet to be seen.

  2. The Beluga (also known as the A300-600ST Super Transporter) was developed to carry complete sections of Airbus aircraft from different production sites around Europe to the final assembly lines in Toulouse or Hamburg. Its main-deck cargo volume is greater than the C5 Galaxy, the An-124 or the C-17 airlifters.

This is a huge airplane. It is not a passenger jet but is for cargo. Based on the Airbus A-300.

  3. Anyone can build a big airplane. My father worked on the original C-5 A's. I started working aircraft on the re-wing of these and the new C-5 B's in the early 1980's. As I recall they were nearly identical except for thousands of special fasteners called taperlocks added to the design and an avionics box added to the inside of the B variants. This was a quarter century ago and I have worked on so much since I can't remember everything. Hey someone give me a set of B/P's.......As for the C-17 being more capable. That is debated. The C-5's main weakness is needing a large hard landing ground. It has been re engined and given a new glass cockpit and still carries more than a C-17. No jet transport is as capable of rough field use as a turboprop. That is why the C-130 is still going strong......

  4. The An225 was an enlargement of the successful An-124 Before the An124 the largest land plane was the C-5 Galaxy built by Lockheed.  Only 2 An225s were built.

    .

The most modern heavy lift aircraft in the U.S.A.F. fleet, the C-17 is smaller but more capable.  It's a generation ahead of the C-5 in range and fuel burn. Bigger is often not better.  The Hindenburg was huge but it carried only 50 passengers although it was half the size of the Empire State Building,  and took days to cross the oceans instead of hours.

    .

When it comes to big passenger planes the A380 is currently the largest but it may be too large.  Many airports already choked with too many travelers have to suddenly deal with planes landing and unloading over five hundred passengers.   The A380 in an all coach class layout can seat over 800.  We are not likely to see any equipped that way outside of Japan where intercity passenger service is a huge business.

    .

While it is possible to build even larger planes it is unlikely that we will see anything larger than the A380 for a very long time.  Large passenger aircraft may be on the way out in favor of smaller fuel efficient planes capable of point to point service bypassing large hub airports.

  5. dear an 225 is a cargo plane and boeing and airbus build the plane that are operational profitable to operetor.

the an225 is used generally to carry military trucks, tanks and container which a company in market wont carry by air. it will cost more and profit is no where.

so dont ask y boeing is not making coz it no need..who will purchase air india..:)

the plane much bigger to the present can be made but can u imagine the big giant and how much passenger will go.

its not profitable so enggineers dont think for this

  6. Yes, larger airplanes can be built; however at that size, some adjustments need to be made.

For instance, the lift of an aircraft is a function of the wing area, which increases as a function of the square of the change in size (for instance, and airplane 25 m long would have 1/4 the wing area of an exact copy of that plane built at twice the size, i.e. 50 m long). But normally, the mass of an airplane will grow as a function of the cube of the length; so a much bigger airplane needs a proportionally larger wing.

Very large airplane may need to explore different configuration than the traditional cylindrical fuselage with wings in the middle and tail in the rear; like span loader or flying wing.

Also, one has to consider the economical appeal of much larger planes. A flying wing would have essentially no windows; would passenger accept this? A different configuration airplane may require changes in airport infrastructure, already some modifications were required to accommodate the A380, and those could be quite costly. Would this reduce the market appeal despite more efficient fuel usage?

So, yes, it can be done; but perhaps the world is not ready for it yet.

  7. Sure, but why would they?

  8. there is a twin...the a380

But honestly....Why do we need a gigantic plane?

  9. Sure, it is possible, but it is not likely to be built in the near future, because Boeing and Airbus are concerned that no one would buy enough of them to make it profitable. The AN225 was built for the Soviet military, and is now being used as a heavy air freight charter aircraft. It is very expensive to charter it and is only hired under special circumstances which make it affordable.

Also, an aircraft of 120m cabin length would not be able to use very many airports, so it would be restricted to just a few, world-wide, so it would not have much of a market, further restricting where it could fly.

The Hindenburg was a dirigible, not a balloon.

    Dan
