An Alternative drug for Lyrica/Neurontin that doesn't cause weight gain???

Ive taken Lyrica for over a year (75mg 3xday) and it really helped with the pain in my legs (especially at night) But the weight gain has been a real problem. My Dr switched me to neurontin (300mg 3xday) saying I shouldnt have the weight gain, but when I researched online I found edema and weight gain is a side effect of Neurontin as well.

I am having pain in my legs again but usually not until near morning. I am thinking of giving up the pills to take off weight and just deal with the pain (I could barely walk before so I am afraid to do so)(I had severe B12 def. anemia and been on B12 shots monthly for 6 months now)

Is there ANYTHING else I can take to help me without making me fat? I have arthritis in knees and feet and I need to take off weight. HELP!!!!!!!

  1. Yes Lyrica does make a person gain weight since it lowers your metabolism and Neurontin also makes one gain weight but not as much as Lyrica does.

Based on the information, You have provided, I believe You don't have much of a prolong pain. So cutting down on these medications is a good idea. Also, excessive weight will put pressure on your legs causing it to pain.

First reduce the intake of Neuronitin by cutting it down to only twice a day and then you can switch to the 100mg capsules. Eventually stopping taking it completely or very less often. I suggest that You get your ferritin level tested and if it is anywhere between 50 to 80 MCG then take some iron mineral pills. They are very much helpless for patients like You that has pain in the legs.

Overall, try taking yoga lessons, visit a nutritionist for a healthy daily diet which will keep you healthy and You should also try to walk daily ( it will help you cut down a whole lot of your weight ).

Wish You A Good Health !

  2. i dont know about any pills that you could take, however, i have heard about something called Prolotherapy, which is meant to be a great alternitive to neurontin. unfortuantly it is injections, but only about 3-6 over 3-6 months. it is meant to help nattuarlly stimulate pain releif, so after a few months you shouldnt need it anymore.

also, you could talk to your doctor about drugs such as risperdal, oxycontin, keppra or even methadone. dunno if any of that helped.
