This sounds good to him, so he goes to the bar to have a beer. the beer cost $200 JA , so he gives the bartender $1.50 US , thinking he has left a 70c tip . The bartender is furious. What mistake did the american make.

  1. He was too drunk to calculate !!

  2. Well he didn't pay for it.  If the exchange rate is that, then $2=140 JA.  So if it's 200 JA, he would need to leave $3.  And that still doesn't leave a 70c tip.

  3. He didn't give enough money.  If it was $1 U.S.-$70 JA than he should've given him $2.86 for the beer and X amount for the tip.  Last time (and the only time) I went to Jamaica (January 2007) the exchange rate was actually $1 U.S.-$60 JA but it could've easily changed since then.

  4. the exchange rate is $1us for $70 ja(as of june 17, 2008).  he did not give the batender a tip, in fact he didnt pay the full amount for the beer.

  5. $1.50 us @70-1 would mean he gave the bartender 105 Jamaican dollars or less being that when the dollar is changed he would likely get less than $70 for 1.
