  1. If you're bringing anything electrical you'll need an adapter plug, so if you have one you could bring it.   If not, you can always buy one when you get here.

I don't agree with the knife and fork thing that the person above mentioned.  That's fine if you're eating in a fancy restaurant, but in most places no-one cares if you just use a fork.

You can buy most things here, the only things I can think of bringing is if you have any favourite foods or products which you can only get in America, then you could bring a supply with you.

  2. Take this book:  "Culture Shock! Scotland."  Available at Amazon or you might find it in your library.  This series of books is a great help when going to other countries.  Of course, you can read it before you go to save packing it.

If you’re interested in having good manners there, bring a good attitude about being able to change just a few things.  There's a section in the above book covering etiquette.  For example, use both fork and knife to eat, and don’t put your knife down to use only your fork.  Eating with just your fork is perfectly fine in the U.S.A, but manners are just a bit different in the U.K.  Just watch the way they do it and copy them.

Regarding clothes, cotton clothes don't keep you warm, so as well as cottons for summer, take lightweight fleece, wool or wool blend items.  Compared to the U.K, clothes are much less expensive in the U.S.A., especially at stores like Ross, Marshalls, T.J. Maxx.   You'll need gloves, scarves and hats in winter so if possible, stock up here.

You’ll probably want to do some traveling throughout Scotland.  Don't bother taking maps bought in the U.S.A.  They have much better Ordinance Survey maps that you can buy in the U.K.

Take these bookmarks on your laptop so that you can learn the lingo or at least get accustomed to Doric—the language spoken by many in Aberdeenshire.

  3. That should about do it.  Your appliances from the US won't work there.  The beer is better there.  They have everything and then some that you would want so go and have a great time.  I love Scotland.

  4. What kind of things were you thinking of bringing?

    - Bring the clothes that you like. It can be sunny and cold so bring a variety. If you need other stuff just buy it in Scotland, lots of shops to choose from.

    - As for the school, you will need a backpack (Nike or something like that), a pencil-case with pens, pencils, eraser, ruler etc. Jotters and textbooks will be provided for you.

    - Anything else like DVDs to shower gel can easily be bought in Scotland so you shouldn't bother with them.

Hope this helps, good luck. :-)

you dont really need to bring anything than your usual stuff. believe me scotland is not that much different from america. its not all castles and hills and tartan kilts.

    -playstation3

    -playstation3

    -girls. magazines inc. nuts/zoo/FHM

-football (soccer). scotland teams inc. celtic, glasgow rangers, aberdeen, edingburgh

    -rugby, either union or league.

  6. Lots of DVDs!! :P Scotland is quite cold so lots and lots of sweaters! :D! I live on the border of Scotland and England and it's quite odd because you can have a week where the weather is really c**p and then you get sun all the next week!!

I'm only joking about the DVDs- It's not really that dull! :P! There's lots going on especially in the cities- Edinburgh is my favourite!! :D Apart from stuff like deodrant and your mobile phone etc you should be fine!! :D If you're moving alone stuff from your house could be good too, incase you get a bit homesick, but I'm sure you wont- you'll have an awesome time I really hope you enjoy it! :D

But seriously, about the sweaters, bring lots. :P!

  7. You won't need much money.
