An Analysis of Athletic Achievement for the Year 2010
After a rather busy 2010 track and field season for the English athletes, the dust has finally started settling down. During and even before the season, focus of the analysts was there to predict about which athlete would make it to both the commonwealth
games and the European championships. Moreover, would the “big names” be able to sustain their energy level for depicting the expected performances in August and October events.
Well, now the answers have finally come in, and interestingly, they are quite contrary to the general perceptions of the spectators as well of the independent sports analysts. Many athletes, including the pre-favourites for the season like Jess Ennis, Phillips
Idowu and Mo Farah could not even appear into any of the event amid the personal issues, lack of desires and of course injuries. So, as a matter of fact, the void left by them was filled in by the new emerging potential.
Starting from the European championships, the stars were quite clear, the athletes that had contributed into the healthy 19 British medals, depicted same level of consistency in their performances and won at Barcelona too, some of them even made it to the
gold medals.
As a matter of fact the athletes who had performed well in the heat of financial capital of Spain deserved a pat on their back for right after coming back from the European championships they decided to stretch the mental battle of 2010 a bit more and decided
to take part into the Delhi commonwealth games. Those who had performed well at Barcelona, it was quite easy for them to keep the high level of motivation, and for those who could not do well, the event provided an opportunity for sprucing up their image.
On a holistic front, both winners and runner ups at Barcelona were to be complimented for it is usually hard for an athlete to refocus and continue a season after the mental and physical battle of one major event is just over.
At Delhi commonwealth games, the initial sweet moments were brought by Turner and Greene who once again performed well and bagged gold medals for the home side. Both of the athletes had depicted superb displays of hurdling after a comparatively longer season.
It was rather a commendable way of the athletes for giving away a message to the authorities that they were still talented enough to keep up the high level of performances.
Talking about Dai, the guy is preparing for the 2012 Olympics gold; however, currently his focus has been shifted to the world championships going to be held in Korea next year.
The steps forward the athlete made in 2010 were huge. He bagged two titles along with beating the world’s best. Upon losing 400m hurdles to Dai, when Kriss Akabusi was asked to share his views, he said that he would go to Dai; though he is only at 6th
position out of the top hundred, the guy had the potential amid which spectators would be looking forward for him in the 2012 event.
Though there had been some other impressive performances at the Delhi commonwealth games event as well, but a better analysis for them can only be dragged once we have the results of another such large event in hand. Perhaps only that would help us assessing
that provided the commonwealth performances, would Leon Baptiste and Louise Hazel be able to realistically up a new level in the world games?
At Delhi games, Leon perhaps enjoyed the advantage of the absence of the Jamaican sprinter to bag his gold medal for 200m. However, the success would give him a real boost of confidence to perform well into the 2011 event.
For Louis, she could only enjoy the limelight for Jess Ennis could not make it into the event. Just like Leon, she also took the advantage of being the current best athlete. However, quite similar to Leon, this success would definitely add up to her confidence
which can lead her to outdo in the big events of 2011 and 2012.
