An Cathaoir Mor – An unfortunate, but a talented runner
An Cathaoir Mor could have achieved a lot more in horseracing, but his career came to a sad end, when he passed away in 2010. He was still very young and was not an easy opponent at all.
The Irish runner, who died as a seven-year-old, had participated in 17 events over a period of two years. He was competitive on most of the times and was still learning with the passage of time.
However, luck did not favour him and his career came to an end after winning just five races. In addition to that, he finished as a runner up once whereas secured the third spot thrice.
The Henry De Bromhead’s trainee started off his career in March 2008 and made a mark right in his very first race. Despite not being rated as the favourite to succeed, he battled his way to the top by a comfortable margin of three and a half lengths. This
was such an impressive start to his career and he was rated highly in the future events during that season.
However, An Cathaoir Mor’s form dipped dramatically afterwards and he struggled to match his opponents for the remainder of the year. He did finish third once, but other than that, he was unable to achieve any good result for his team.
Despite that, the talented gelding did not lose hope at all and started off the 2009 season on a positive note. He finished third in his very first outing and followed that up with a couple of back to back victories. He ended that year on a high as well,
giving his team a lot of hope for the future.
In 2010, Turtle Island’s son looked in the best shape of his entire career. He was a lot more mature and seemed to be unstoppable in the first two outings of that season. He liked running on the wet ground, so the weather helped him in achieving a couple
of solid results for his team.
Afterwards, An Cathaoir Mor failed to complete two consecutive races and the last one was the unluckiest for him, as he fell and unseated his rider. He had the potential to win some major competitions for his team, but life betrayed him in the end.
