Dear Test Cricket,
I know you are not feeling well. How can you be when the soul has been sucked out of you? Dark clouds are looming on you, quite literally.
Ironically, the same could be said for you as corrupted minds and their dishonest ways are negatively affecting you.
When you were born on 15th http://www.senore.com/Cricket/March-c74391 1877 in the prestigious cricket ground, the MCG - your immediate family, the first class cricket predicted great things for you and welcomed you with open arms in the world of cricket. Even though, it was widely
conflicted that you were a long lost relative of the family as they were related to domestic cricket, yet you gave a chance for the game to go around the world.
England’s Lillywhite’s professional side and Australia’s weaker side clashed at your birthplace to celebrate your origin. The prediction of your loved ones came true since the morning of your birth. The first ball was bowled, the first run made, the first
wicket fell, and the shame felt as a player went out for a duck. It was all historic, all epic. You were creating history as 1500 spectators came to welcome you in a 2000-seat stadium. As the sun descended, 4500 curious people joined the stands and the green
grass around the ground to witness the hoopla around your birth.
You garnered immense liking because of your beautiful game and were soon held highly amongst your family and the cricket world as the first match wrapped up when a weaker Australian side defeated a relatively strong English side.
Such were the glories of you. As they say, rest is history. With time you became more interesting; you pulled out people from their homes world over and brought them together for the love of the game. The English and Australians fought with each other (they
still do) for the battle of the Ashes, politically conflicting countries India and Pakistan have a history of cricket rivalry, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 used to eye the prize in the
80s, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 versus England has always been spicy.
And spicy it has been in the year 2010 which tarnished your name to beyond. You were already declining due to the birth of your sister, the Twenty20 cricket, and brothers, IPL and ICL. Plus, the world was changing and people were living a very fast life.
They did not have time for you, even not on the Television. They were more interested in watching Bollywood King http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 and the scantily clad cheerleaders, but not you. People were amazed by the fact that so many players from different national teams can come
together just like in football leagues. They were astounded by the fact that a five day match of cricket could be trimmed to just 2 hours.
What they failed to understand, my dearest Test cricket, your sister and brothers are from another planet. Yes my friend, we could have a nice laugh about it.
Yet, you are exposed to the world of bribery and corruption, and to countless accusations. But even though you were having a tough time during the summer of this year, the players were getting the blame and not you.
However, for the past few months, people have forgotten the greatness that lived within you due to your flat, lifeless pitch. The people nurturing you now need a remedy to make pitches that give any result other than a draw.
Series after series, and we have been treated to stalemates. Some, due to the heavenly doors of the power vested above (simply put, the rain) whereas others have been resorted to the boring sound of dot balls.
The teams or the players won’t be winning or losing but, you, my friend would be the loser here. The cricket and long-suffering spectators will be the losers.
And this certainly does not go with your reputation. You were hailed as the king of cricket and now you are being bashed because of some natural causes and due to a bunch of failing curators.
All eyes are now on the Test match at Adelaide, in your birth country. People have been writing you off saying you are in grave danger. Yet, don’t give in.
An inspiration is needed to revive; you must be strong and keep your head high above. We all are with you!
Regards,
Millions of Test Cricket fans
All over the world
Planet Earth.
