An Indian can be a better coach: Sunil Gavaskar
The former Indian skipper, Sunil Gavaskar is not excited about the appointment of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Duncan-c54739 Fletcher as the Indian Cricket team’s coach.
According to Gavaskar, a person like Mohinder Amarnath could have made the difference in a better way.
He said; "http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohinder-c77564 Amarnath for example is one himself, who for the simple reason that the core of the Indian team today comes from the Hindi belt. And I think Jimmy would get along brilliantly with them. Apart from that he has got a fabulous record of making
comebacks, he knows what it is to be down and then come back up."
Gavaskar was a member of the panel which selected Gary Kirsten for the coaching assignment of the Indian team in 2007.
The appointment of Fletcher has been unlike Kirsten’s selection as the Board of control for cricket in India has chosen Fletcher without any prior notice.
As per the legendry batsman (Sunil), Amarnath can understand the psyche of the Indian players more effectively, helping them stay mentally fit.
Gavaskar has always criticised the involvement of foreign coaches in the Indian cricket setup. He does not agree with the perception that local coaches get involved in politics instead of paying attentions towards their job.
He added; "I think if you have a look there is a perception and wrong if I might add, that the Indian coach can be influenced. He will get involved in politics which is there but that you are presuming that Indian is not going to be a strong person. Haven't
we seen in the past overseas guys also, well not exactly, if not indulging in politics and being a little partial towards people from their region."
The former captain of India, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kapil-Dev-c70234 is also not welcoming of Fletcher’s appointment as the Indian coach.
He said; "I would like to see Venkatesh Prasad and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 players) as coaches of the Indian team. Not because they are Indians but because they did a great job at the T20 World Cup in 2007."
Fletcher has replaced http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Kirsten-c58527 who decided to bid farewell to the Indian team after the ICC World Cup 2011.
