An Infected Hangnail?

I have had a hangnail for about 3 days, and it has been stinging constantly, and I have put triple antibiotic ointment on it everyday, but it won't go away. How long do hangnails last, and could mine be infected? Thanks!

It may be difficult for the antibiotic ointment to penetrate in that area of the body. You may have to see a doctor or go to an urgent care clinic at least.
