An Introduction to the Second Session of NXT
It is the same story with new characters. 8 young wrestling rookies from all over the world have gathered in U.S.A to compete for the chance of a lifetime. It is raw energy, raw athleticism, raw power; it is the second session of NXT. The first session of NXT ended last Tuesday. It was Wade Barrett who scored a win and earned a fulltime wrestling contract with WWE. He also received the opportunity to compete against any professional wrestling champion of his choice with the title on the line. After the huge success of the first wrestling session of NXT, WWE presents the second episode of this premier wrestling show.
In NXT, 8 different rookies are assigned to 8 professional wrestlers of today. These professional wrestlers mentor the rookies and train them by teaching them different wrestling skills and moves. The 8 rookies who have been selected to compete in the next session will be fighting for a chance of a lifetime. However, the link between the rookies and the assigned professional wrestlers is interesting, and can result in dangerous situations and brawls between them. Where some of these professional wrestlers are famous for their helping attitude, there are others who are known for their demeaning behaviour.
The first rookie is Husky Harris (Windham Rotunda), who is the son of famous wrestler Irwin R. Schyster, or I.R.S. for short (Michael Rotunda), and is a third generation superstar. Husky Harris is paired up with Cody Rhodes, who is himself a second generation wrestling superstar. It is an interesting match-up, as both the rookie and the mentor come from famous wrestling families. The next rookie is Eli Cottonwood, who is 7’1” tall and weighs more than 300 pounds. Eli Cottonwood may bulldoze his way in the ring by using his weight and size to his advantage. He is paired up with John Morrison, who is an exuberant professional wrestler on Monday Night RAW.
Next to come is Percy Watson, who is a rookie and considers himself as a ladies’ man. He thinks that his wrestling skills combined with his ability to attract the crowd will make him the next champion. Montel Vontavious Porter (originally Alvin Burke Jr., till he developed his ‘MVP’ persona), who is known for his party lifestyle, is the mentor of Percy Watson. Seems MVP will teach much more to Percy than just wrestling skills. Another rookie who has become famous for his raw fighting ability is Titus O’Neil. Titus said in his interview that he will knock down every wrestler who will come in his way to the winning spot. His mentor is the Loudmouth, Zack Ryder, who is famous for bragging about his wrestling abilities. It seems that it will be difficult for Zack Ryder and Titus O’Neil to blend in a professional relationship.
Then there is Kaval, who is young rookie from New York, and believes that his high-risk flying wrestling manoeuvres will earn him the top spot. Interestingly his mentor is not a professional male wrestler but are two wrestling Divas who are known for their selfish attitude. It is the first time that Divas have been assigned as mentors to an NXT rookie. Then there is a confident rookie by the name of Lucky Cannon. He said in an interview that he is famous to win wrestling championships with a mixture of fighting skills and pure luck. It is Mark Henry, the worlds’ strongest man who is mentoring him. Mark Henry explicitly said if Luck Cannon shows him dedication and hard work, he will teach him some of the best wrestling skills.
The remaining NXT rookies for the second fighting season are Mike McGillicutty (second generation wrestling superstar) and Alex Riley, who have been assigned Kofi Kingston and ‘The Miz’ respectively. Wrestling fans are eager to watch another thrilling episode of wrestling which will reveal the next wrestling superstar. All of the rookies will need much more than simple energy and brute force; they will need some luck for winning the wrestling round. And luck is not easy to come.
