An MRI revealed central disc potrusion and the L4-L5 level w/ moderate narrowing of the can and lateral recess

It also showed moderate to severe narowwing of the right neural foramina and right lateral recess at the L5-S1 level due to a paramedian disc protrusion. What does all this mean??

  1. It means you have discs (the padding between vertebral bones) that are squishing out and pushing on the spinal cord in your lower back.  The holes where the nerves exit from the spinal column are also narrowed.

    You might benefit from epidural steroid injections to reduce inflammation around the nerves, or you may need surgery to pull out the disc material that is pushing on the spinal cord and nerves.  A neurosurgeon can best advise you on that, after s/he looks at your MRI and examines you.
