An Post Sean Kelly announces two new riders
The Irish cycling team An Post Grant Thornton M. Donnelly Sean Kelly has added Andrew Fenn and Philip Lavery to their 2011 line-up.
Fenn was the junior winner of the 2008 Paris-Roubaix, one of the most prestigious of the Spring Classics, and won the British national under-23 road race championships.
"Fenn is a high quality addition to the team. Anybody who wins the Paris-Roubaix as a junior has serious potential and we are delighted he has signed for us," said team manager Kurt Bogaerts, according to
Velonation. "He is one for the future and it’s great that we can be part of his development."
20-year old Lavery has been competing with the team as a stagiaire and earned his promotion after a strong performance in the Tour of Britain and throughout the season. Lavery will be the second new Irishman on the team next year, joining Sam Bennett.
"Lavery is a great addition," said Bogaerts. "This season he showed us how hungry he was to ride for the team and of course, he has massive potential. We look forward to having him for a full season next year."
British rider Andrew Fenn is joined by six fellow international cyclists, including Lithuanians Gediminas Bagdonas and Darijus Dzervus and Belgians Kenny Terweduwe, Kess Heytens, Kevin Claeys and Dries Hollanders.
"The two guys from Lithuania have a great track history and have 16 wins between them from last season, so again we are happy to have them on board," said Bogaerts.
"The Belgian quartet are all young and ambitious, so I expect them to do well. Claeys, is a very quick sprinter, which is something we wanted to add to the team. Overall I’m really excited for 2011."
Leaving the team after 2010 are Matt Brammeier, moving to the Pro team HTC-Highroad, and David O’Loughlin, who hasn’t announced his plans for 2011.
