  1. The definition of acid is a chemical substance that releases H+ ions when dissolved in water.

    Thus, acid donates these H+ ions when reacted, giving them the name of proton donor. If you do experiments with acid, you'll notice acids will release hydrogen gas.

    There are acids however, that do NOT donate protons but rather accept electron pairs ( the Lewis acid /base definition).
