An affordable trip to Ireland for Two?

I like to visit a Catholic sister, who is 84, retired, and now lives in a Convent in Wicklow Country in Ireland. She devoted her whole life to serve the needed. Got her help while I was in schooling about 40 years ago before I moved to the US. Remember her forever and developed into some kind of friendship. Not seen her for over 15 years. In view of our ages, and I still could move on my own, want to go there on March 2.

  1. It would be affordable. But it is dear.

  2. It can be expensive it depends on where you stay.Try www.tourireland.ie

  3. I just rented a cute little cottage for 4 people for 400 euros ( about 600. US), for a week in the spring of 08 in the Wicklow mountains.  I can hardly wait to go and I thought that it was very resonable.  We are splitting it with another couple though.  Look under www.shamrockcottages.com  for 2 person rentals.. there are some very inexpensive ones.

When booking air fare, don't go with the big airlines.  Look at the charter flights and book air only.  We are paying $600.00 return from Toronto each.

Good luck, maybe we will see you there!!

  4. It is very affordable. My husband and i went there for our honeymoon. We stayed for 12 days and it was 2500 for everything except food and drinks. Its alot cheaper then most people think.

Look at tourismireland.com they will have great deals on package deals, also try your local travel agent and let them know how long tou want to stay and where and around how much you are looking to spend.

Have a wonderful time in Ireland!

  5. I'm sure you are aware of this, but there's nothing inexpensive about it; the Euro exchange rate is at about $1.50. When my wife and I go, we always stay in B & B's though; the families that run them are always friendly and informative. That'll probably run you between 40-50 euro per night. It's cheaper than hotels are, but much nicer than your cheapest option, hostels. If you rent a car, be aware that petrol is about a euro per litre.

Does this convent have any recommendations for places nearby, or can they put you up themselves somewhere?

It's good that you're planning your travel when you are; the tourist season is of course much more expensive and crowded, but for March 2nd, I don't think you'll have a problem.
