An all-new Castle Stuart set to welcome the Scottish Open on the European Tour this year in July
World renowned Castle Stuart Golf Links will be swinging back in action in July this year with Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open returning to the newly renovated course in Scotland.
Home of some of the coveted events on the European Tour in the past, Castle Stuart presents a brilliant amalgam of both the Links course as well as the regular Scottish courses elsewhere in the country.
World number two Luke Donald will be returning to defend the title he won last year, amid a strong field lined up for the event scheduled on July 12-15.
The course has now been equipped with four new bunkers alongside a hefty investment in the underground drainage system of the course, amounting to a whooping £70,000.
This will now ensure that the course will be drained as quickly as possible rendering minimum effect on the play. The drainage system has been installed keeping in view the ever-unpredictable weather of the country.
The total yardage of the course has now increased to almost 150 yards as new tee boxes have been provided to the ninth, 12th and 15th holes.
Mike Stewart, Tournament Director of the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open lauded the arduous and painstaking job undertaken by the course staff.
He said, "The staff at Castle Stuart have carried out a magnificent job of making improvements in a number of areas, and we should applaud them for taking the initiative in making the tournament better for players”.
The staff at the revered course have done a magnificent job in trimming the fairways, widening the walkways, pitching in new pavements and trails in order to make the course more spectator-friendly during the event.
Stewart further added, "Everyone who competed at last year's tournament was hugely impressed with the course layout. The changes - together with new drainage facilities - have improved what was already a world-class venue”.
Scottish Open suffered a big setback when the official sponsor of the event decided to pull out of the title a few years back.
The European Tour in general and a few events in particular had to face the dire repercussions of the lack of finances to organise the event.
European Tour had to extend financial support to these events from their own coffers to avoid a discontinuation of the events.
