In 2010, Columbian golfer Dustin Johnson went from being a rising star to a world famous celebrity. Winning two wins this year, Johnson bagged more than $4.5 million dollars. Not only has he made a good amount of money, Dustin recently won The State’s South
Carolina Professional Athlete of the Year Award.
Johnson’s first won of the year was the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-am. Posting rounds of 64-68-64-74, winning this event for the second time. Johnson was victorious at the same event last year as well when he defeated the Canadian Mike Weir by four strokes.
Four weeks after his mishap at the PGA, Johnson took over the golf course and won the BMW Championship ahead of Paul Casey. Johnson had entered the final round with a three shot deficit and played remarkably to earn the title. Then, his Ryder Cup performance
in Wales was legendary. Even though America lost, Johnson crushed Germany’s Martin Kaymer 6 and 4 in the individual singles match.
Earlier this month, Johnson paired up with Ian Poulter and won the Shark Shootout hosted by golf legend Greg Norman. This win led Johnson to be Golf World Magazines No. 5 golf story. Even though he is famous worldwide, the player never forgets his roots.
This year, he donated thousands of dollars to the Coastal Carolina’s golf program. Also, the Dustin Johnson Foundation became sponsor for the S.C Junior Golf Association Player’s Championship.
Where there are good memories, bad memories can never be forgotten either. Two times in four weeks, Dustin was on the verge of winning but just could not make it. The first mishap was during the U.S Open, when leading throughout the tournament, Dustin posted
an 82 in the final round. The second time was at the PGA Championship when Dustin had violated PGA rules. Regardless of what the cause might have been, these tournaments will forever be embedded in the player’s memory.
Disappointment is not necessarily a bad news for Dustin. He is known to learn from his mistakes and improve his game. Having a great year, Dustin is even more eager to tee off in 2011. With his boosted confidence, Johnson will begin the year 2011 on a happy
note.
“I don’t think I need to prove anything to anyone. My golf speaks for itself… I’m very proud of myself. I think I’ve handled everything very well,” said Johnson.
