An analysis of MotoGP rider Ben Spies rider of Yamaha – MotoGP Special
Ben Spies currently racing for team Yamaha started his career with MotoGP in 2008, with team Rizla Suzuki MotoGP however, he moved to factory Yamaha Motor Racing to race along with Jorge Lorenzo in 2011.
In 2008, he could only participate in British Grand Prix, United States Grand Prix and Indianapolis Grand Prix. In US Grand Prix and Indianapolis Grand Prix, he was able to attain a place among the top ten racers.
In the very next year he came to Yamaha but could only participate in one race- the Valencia Grand Prix. He managed to finish the race at 7th place. It was the same year when it was announced by Yamaha that Spies will be joining Yamaha Tech 3 in place of
James Toseland, rider at Yamaha Tech 3.
Year 2010 marked the true start of the career of Spies with Qatar Grand Prix in which he had the 11th qualifying position and he was able to make it to 5th place in the race. In that year, he finished the race at the podium twice at 3rd and 2ndplace, respectively
in British Grand prix and Indianapolis Grand Prix. In the season he had to face many ups and downs but he never dropped under 10th place in any grand prix.
The next year 2011 witnessed Spies winning the first race of his career at Netherland Grand Prix. Until now it has proved to be the best year for him because he made it to the podium four times including once when he finished the race as winner.
The 2012 season has not proved to be a very good season for the American rider, until now. So far, in the current season he has been unable to attain any place among top ten contenders in four of the grands prix he started. Currently he holds 10th place
in the riders’ championship. Until now, he has been unable to make it to the podium.
Before the US Grand Prix, he announced that he will not be renewing his contract with Yamaha for the 2013 season. He later said that he had made this announcement because he wanted to get rid of the pressure he had on his mind related to his contract and
wanted to concentrate on his racing. Until now, he has not disclosed the name of the team he will be joining for the upcoming 2013 season.
During United Stated Grand Prix at Laguna Seca, he faced an incident 11 laps prior to the finish line and was unable to finish the race. He faced a technical problem with the swingarm of his bike which resulted in his bike getting out of his control.
It is still a question which team will he be joining for the upcoming 2013 season. Until now, he has not signed any contract with any team, until the ongoing summer break. However, it is expected that he will be breaking the news of his contract after the
summer break.
His teammate Jorge Lorenzo, currently leading the championship with 205 points is of the view that it is sad that Spies will not be racing for Yamaha. He has offered him luck with his career in the following season. He said that it is sad because Ben is
an old rider of Yamaha.
