An audio signal is a DC signal or an AC signal?

The current signal that the amplifier feeds to the output monitor (speaker) is an AC signal or is it a DC signal? Will reversing the connections of a speaker damage the speaker?

  1. All car electronics are DC


  2. dc- if you change the pahse of the subs it will change the sound. however if you mount them inverted ie magnet facing out you will need to wire them out of phase that way the cones are not pushing threw the mounting hole

  3. Direct Current, dc its coming directly from the battery, reversing the connections will cause the speaker to play out of phase

  4. The power (12v) is DC.

    The music (signal) is AC - by definition analog signal is AC.

    You that does NOT mean you can reverse the speaker connection. On some speaker the negative post is ground to the car chassis, so the reverse can short out the amp.  That will be like connecting the positive (signal) directly to the ground.
