An earthquake in Tahoe?

when the big 7 pointer earthquake hits the coast of california (or, wa, and Canada, too), is the eastern side of the state...like tahoe likely to get hit as well?

  1. first, a 7. quake is big if you're close.

    but it's nothing like "the big one".

    the 1906 quake ruptured the fault for about 300 miles, and it was an 8.

    if the fault along calif, oregon, washington and Canada went, it would be more than an 8.

    the next fault that's statistically likely to break is the hayward fault which is not nearly as long as the san andreas.

    it's likely to be felt, on the western side of the sierras, but not be serious.
