so I'm thinking that the essay i'm writing could really be serviced by a good simile or metaphor, haha :) and i'm trying to think of things that are symbolic of a child growing up--things like moving onto a big kid cup instead of a bottle, or a girl getting her first period. the thing is neither of those feel quite right to me and otherwise i'm drawing a blank.

any ideas on things symbolic of a child emotionally (and/or physically) growing up?

  1. From cooties to kisses is a good one for a person who is trying to make a play on words of how the opposite s*x sees each other as they get older.

  2. Let's see: moving from crib to a bed, puberty (hair growing in weird places, voice changes, etc.), first job/paycheck, stop playing w/dolls (and playing w/the real thing), training wheels being taken off, being potty-trained. Hope some of these are helpful, good luck!!

  3. Younger child - riding a bike without training wheels.

Teenager - first love and first heart break

    pig tails to dressed hair

    skinned knees to shaving legs

  4. what about the change of voice for a young boy which will get a little or a lot deeper than it was before puberty
