Y2K buuble in 2000 has changed the world. I suggest, kindly read "The World is Flat" which is an amazing book and talks about how the events in the past 20 years have affected the last 5 years adversely in changing the world. Otherwise I would not have been writing this answer to your question like this, which seems to be so easy today.

There wasn't one....although people often point to the Twin Towers which did have a big impact (no pun intended)...it didn't affect the whole world..
