An example of failure in art?

by failure i mean artist who tried to paint "outside the box" like Picasso but failed because society didn't aprove then , the opposite of picasso

  1. A very good example is Van Gogh. He sold one painting (his brother bought it out of pity, I suppose). He could not make people see that his vibrant colours and composition were just as valid an expression as the paintings of artists less

    "demon-possessed".  Most artists are a bit insane by nature--that is, they don't act as they are supposed to. LOL.

Well, the original impressionists, Monet, Manet, Renoir, Pissaro, Degas, Sisley, Morisot, etc., were so unacceptable to the academy critics that they opened their own gallery and called it "Salon du Refusees"--"the gallery of the rejects".  Of course, within ten years they were accepted, the style had gone international, and most of them had given it up and gone on to other styles...
