  1. An exception occurs if you take a major that does not lead to high level employment. Like my daughter's girlfriend, when she graduated with a degree in English, she got a job selling insurance for about $8.00 an hour, something she could have done right out of high school. So in her case, the opportunity cost wa svery high.

    On the other hand, my daughter with her econ degree is in grad school and with an MS in Transportation will likely start at just below six figures.

    Or if you decide to be self employed.

    And do your own thinking to do your homework.

    simple microeconomics. opportunity costs takes into account all costs including higher or lower future earnings dependent on education or changes in the outlook for the economy.
