I'm in the market for my first DSLR, I decided I wanted the Nikon D60 with 18-55mm AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor VR lens and10.2 mp, for $700, but, then I was looking online and saw that I could get the Nikon D40 with 18-55mm DX Zoom-Nikkor lens, Nikon Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm zoom lens, and unfortunatly only 6.1 mp for $600? Which would you get?

Thanks

  1. I would pick a camera. D60.

    Because in a year you would want one anyway. ( I feel already that I need a different one)

  2. Only 6MP?  That is plenty for what you are doing ... I used a D100 with a 6MP sensor professionally for nearly 4 years and my stock photography is still selling.

    Someone ... the marketing bunch has convinced you that a higher pixel count is the most important part of a camera... Nothing could be further from the truth

    Here is what is important when determining what is most influential in producing high quality images.

    * lens quality

    * analog to digital conversion engine in the camera (DSLR's have superior ones)

    * size of the sensor

    * MP/cm² ... the lower the better in most cases ... especially if shooting at high ISO settings.

    * pixel count is the least important

  3. Lenses are more important than the number of megapixels.

    Although it is "officially" the spare body, I use my 6mp DSLR at major shoots  because I can have it ready to go iwhen  I need another lens quickly.
