An extra grandstand to be built for Australian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
The organisers of the first Grand Prix to be held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia have made an announcement than an extra grandstand will be constructed in order to meet the rising demand of the F1 fans for the tickets of the season-opener.
The CEO of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, Andrew Westacott has stated that there had been an awesome response from the side of the fans and we are quite thrilled about our announcement regarding the construction of the new grandstand for the first
race.
“Due to an overwhelming response, existing grandstands are almost at capacity and we are excited to announce that we will build another stand at Turn 1,” said Westacott.
However, during the end of the last month, Bernie Ecclestone, F1 chief executive has said that they were ready to march away from the Australian GP while calling it ‘least viable’ for the future of F1 ahead of 2015 in which the contract with the Australian
organisers would expire.
Ecclestone said that there were many other venues which were potentially better than the Albert Park in Melbourne and F1 would surely need to prefer the modern over the conventional venues for organising the events.
In addition, he said the GP would definitely have to make the economic sense to the owners of F1 in order to keep their interest in the game which seemed to be lessening in Australia.
Furthermore, he said that the additional cost of installing the lights would further increase the taxes which would be hard to take up.
Nonetheless, Westacott said that the Australian fans were following this year’s first race like never before.
“With less than two weeks until the country’s premier international motorsport event kicks off, Australians are supporting the sport like never before,” he said.
Moreover, there will be an addition of 844 seats in the Moss Grandstand, located between the Turn 1 and the pit lane at a prime locality which would provide the spectators a great view of the Albert Circuit and they can enjoy four days of power pack racing
action from this grandstand by paying only 310 USD.
