Question:

An iPod for a wedding gift?

My brother and his fiancée registered for practically nothing and all of the items listed are $30 or less. All of the more substantial items were already purchased and were not more than maybe $60. They are being shy about asking for gifts obviously. He and I are very close and my husband and I want to get ONE item that they will remember was from us, not a bunch of kitchen gadgets or other cheap things that will wear out over time. He just got a new car with an iPod jack and mentioned how much they want an iPod but I know with all of their expenses right now it's not something they will go and buy. Is an iPod strange to give as a wedding gift? He did not mention wanting anything else except cooking pans and they have some on their registry, just not a set. What do you think?

  1. I think it sounds like a great idea..

  2. As a wedding gift for the two of them no...it won't really be for the "both" of them cause one is going to end up using it more then the other.  If you really wanted to give it to your brother at wedding time I would gift it as a private gift before ceremony time with a little card that says I am so excited to see my brother all grown up and starting his life with someone so great.  There will be ups and there will be downs take this gift and use it to let loose.

Then for the actual wedding gift I think a great picture frame is always a nice way to go.  You know there are going to be lots of memories printed out on paper from that day and this will be a great way for them to constantly enjoy their favorite.

  3. I'm torn here...on one hand I think it's a great idea if it's something they actually want but were too shy to put on the list.  On the other hand with it being someone that close to you I'm the type that would rather get a sentimental gift that will stand the test of time for them to say on their 25th anniversary that they still have and use the gift they got from his sister. While the odds are it won't be, but in 25 years will an iPod be the next 8-track player?

  4. It may not be typical, but that's what will make it memorable! I love the idea if that's something they really want then I don't care what it's for get it. They'll love it and be thrilled when they open your gift and don't get yet another blender lol

  5. Ya! Go for it.  Get them a good one, like the ipod touch.  I wouldn't mind getting an ipod as a gift.  Or if you have the money, buy one for each of them.

  6. Well, I'd dig an iPod for a wedding gift, but then again, I'm not really a traditional type of person.  In fact, my fiance and I are totally registering for a Wii, because I'd rather play Rock Band than mess around in a kitchen with a bunch of dumb appliances any old day!

Get them an iPod Touch- they are super-groovy!!!!  Or maybe two small iPod Nanos, one for each of them, one in pink and one in black, engraved with their names on them, because it's kind of hard to share an iPod.

  7. I think you should give them something that they are going to need.  You did not mentioned if they live together already, if they don't you can get them Bar-ware, Crystal gifts, Stemware, high quality blankets... All these things are pricey but very meaningful gifts.  If they live together gift cards are always very helpful.

  8. I think that for a friend or distant relative it may be a little odd. But since its your brother and you know its something he wants I think its a sweet idea, you could also get him an itunes giftcard either to go with it, or for the next time you are purchasing him a present. He and his fiancee are being modest, and thats fine I am the same way- I hate telling people what to bye me, I think your gift if very personal.

  9. perfect gift for me.I love music. If they need one,get them one.Not strange at all.On our wedding,we'll be asking for electronics so its not weird at all if their music freaks.

  10. That's a fantastic idea.

  11. Absolutely!  That's a great gift.  Don't forget to get them a gift certificate to iTunes too & maybe even a home dock if it's in your budget.

  12. There's nothing wrong with getting them something personal like that. BUT... you mentioned that you don't want to get them kitchen gadgets that will wear out overtime, and an Ipod will do the same thing! Plus do they have the extra money to buy music for it? Maybe you should include an I-tunes gift card as well.

And lastly, would that be just more of a gift for him? Unless they share a car or something, it sounds like the gift would be for HIM for HIS car. Think about the circumstances and make sure that the gift will be including his fiance' as well.

If you already have all that figured out, then get the ipod. :)

  13. Heck no, get it for them.  One couple I know registered for a bunch of Wii games.  So, if you think they'll dig it, go ahead and get it for them!

    Take care!

  14. It's a fantastic gift!!!! But I would also get the dock to go with it (if it's in your budget) because otherwise it's a one person gift and it should be something the couple can use together.

EDIT: When I say dock, i mean the home dock that turns your IPod into a stereo.

  15. i think it's a great gift!

    they'll love it!
