  1. The water will cool. The amount of water won't change, although it might look less. The ice contains air, which makes it look larger.


  2. Any thing that floats displaces a quantity of water equal to the mass of the object.  When the ice melts it will produce liquid water that will occupy the space that was originally displaced, so the level stays the same.

    That's not true for fresh water ice in sea water.  When fresh water icebergs melt they will actually raise the sea level by a small amount.
