In the latest round of Russian Premier League action, Spartak Moscow thrashed Dynamo Moscow 4-0 at Arena Khimki.
In aftermath of the outcome, Unai Emery has hailed his side’s commitment and attitude towards the derby match, insisting that the Spartachi deserved to win against the Moscow-based club with a big margin.
“We are very pleased with this important victory. It's true that we were on top of the opponent from the very beginning of the game until the end. Derby is always a very difficult match, especially if you play on someone else's
stadium,”
“We could do more in terms of selection of the ball and positional play. And I can tell you that there is a healthy competition for places in the team, which is good,” The former Rennes manager was quoted as saying.
Emery, who took the managerial charge at the Moscow-based club after resigning from the post of head coach at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 last month, insisted that they have every right to enjoy a well-deserved victory.
The former Real Sociedad manager was of the belief that his side showed great character against a top club. Emery revealed that they were lucky enough to score the first goal, which gave them enough confidence and put them on the
driving seat.
However, the 40-year-old has warned the Red-whites against complacency, insisting that they still need to work on different aspects of the game.
There is little arguing to the statement that the Spartachi failed to impress in the UEFA Europa League after they suffered a panicking 5-4 play-off defeat against Legia Warsaw last term.
Emery, who earned a wealth of experience playing in the UEFA Champions League with his former club, revealed that he needs to do a lot of hard work before making Spartak ready for the European tournament.
Asked if he is interested in signing Barcelona’s Ibrahim Afellay, Emery ended the speculation, saying that the Dutch International is not the kind of player he wants to sign in the near future.
