An in-depth look at the Formula 1 team, Scuderia Ferrari – Part 1
Ferrari are considered as the oldest team of Formula 1 in the modern era as the team became a part of the sport back in 1950. It is statistically the best team of the sport and they have been performing consistently since they joined the sport.
Ferrari are an Italian team and they have produced drivers like Michael Schumacher, Rubens Barrichello, Gilles Villeneuve, Niki Lauda and many other legendary drivers of the sport.
During the team’s first 7 years in the sport, they were unable to secure a single point as a result of which, they were quite disappointed by their performance.
In 1958 however, Ferrari secured the 2nd place in the constructors’ standings after scoring 57 points. This was the point where Ferrari stepped forward and never looked back. The following year the team again scored some pretty
decent results as they finished in 2nd place in the constructors’ standings and 1960 was no different either as they secured the 3rd place in the constructors’ standings then.
However, 1961 was the team’s most important year as they secured their first constructors’ title this year and now it was quite clear that Ferrari are a team that is here to stay and they are consistent enough to challenge the top running teams of the sport
each year.
The following year was a major blow to the team though as it finished in 6th place in the constructors’ standings and but after that, they recovered once again and secured the 4th place after scoring some pretty competitive
26 points in the constructors’ standings.
Like every team, they did have their bad times as well but in 1964 once again, the team secured the world title and proved that Ferrari are a special team of the sport and they are not a one hit wonder.
Until the next 10 years, it was unable to win a single championship but they kept scoring some pretty decent results and they remained as one of the top running teams of the sport until then.
With the addition of Niki Lauda to the team, the team scored its 3rd championship in 1975 and after that, the team secured the title until the 1977 Formula 1 season making it 3 titles in a row.
In 1977, the team added Gilles Villeneuve to the team and since Niki Lauda did not stay at the team in 1978, they were unable to retain their title again.
However, 1979 was a pretty good year for the team as they secured another title before going through their worst run in more than 20 years. The team finished in 10th place in the constructors’ standings in the 1980 season and since
McLaren was become pretty strong with the addition of Niki Lauda and Alain Prost, the team went through a rough patch until the end of 1981 after which they once again secured 2 titles in a row.
After that, the team once again went through 12 ‘title-less’ years but this was the most important time for the team as they kept improving and challenging for the titles quite competitively. They signed drivers like Alain Prost, Nigel Mansell, Gerhard Berger
and Michael Schumacher as well and they kept performing outstanding during the 90s.
