An in-depth look at the profile of Formula 1 team, Virgin Racing Team
Virgin Racing Team became a part of Formula 1 in 2010 and the team is headed by former single-seater champion John Booth who has been trying his best to improve the team’s performance and make it a consistent and established team in Formula 1.
In 2010, it was revealed that the sport is going to introduce a number of new teams as some of the older teams had changed its form already and they were not performing up to the mark. The back-running teams were going through some financial problems as
well as a result of which the officials of the sport decided to go through some new team proposals.
After an extensive process, the officials picked three news teams for the 2010 Formula 1 season. These teams were namely Team Lotus, Virgin Racing Team and Hispania Racing Team.
Out of these three teams, Lotus was a major surprise at it used to be a championship winning Formula 1 team before its departure in the early 90s. VRT and HRT on the other hand were relatively ‘newer’ teams and they had a big task ahead of them as making
a name in Formula 1 is not easy at all.
However after a lot of struggle, VRT began its Formula 1 career at Bahrain in 2010 but unfortunately, the team was unable to secure a single point in its first Formula 1 season. This was quite heartbreaking for the team but since Team Lotus or HRT did not
secure a single point either, this was a satisfactory first season for the team.
The main reason why the new teams were unable to score good results in their respective debut season was that the officials of the sport decided to introduce some new rules and regulations as a result of which Formula 1 became quite technical and complicated.
Even the top running teams at first faced some problems during the development process but things stabilised for them after a couple of races as they got used to the new technology and devices.
The back-running teams of the other hand were unable to do so as quickly as the established teams of the sport.
Nevertheless, VRT began their Formula 1 journey with Luca di Grassi, Timo Glock and Jerome d’Ambrosio and overall, Team Lotus were the better team in terms of pace out of the three new teams. VRT were looking very good as well and they gave Lotus a pretty
tough time.
HRT on the other hand struggled to cope up with its rivals and it was a very disappointing run for them statistically and financially as well.
Either way, VRT moved on to the 2011 Formula 1 season with high hopes claiming that they would improve their performance and try their best to cope up with the mid-running teams of the sport.
According to the statistics, VRT have not been able to cope up with the mid-running teams of the sport in 2011 either but they are on level terms with Team Lotus and the team has definitely improved its performance without any doubt.
One has to admit that if VRT stay in Formula 1 for another two, three years maybe, they will improve a lot and probably score some good ‘mid-field’ scores.
