Question:

An interesting question about shower curtains?

I was taking a shower this morning, and my shower curtain kept sticking to my legs, almost like a magnet to metal. I want to know why. I have a small shower, so I can't really avoid it.

I think it might be some science behind it. Does it have something to do with the difference in air pressure inside the shower? I really want to know why the shower curtain sticks to me.

Thanks!

  1. The air heated by the hot shower water rises, and is replaced by cooler air entering the shower at the bottom.  This flow happens whether or not the bathroom door is open.  It sticks to your leg because of surface tension.  Magnets on the bottom of the curtain help only if they have something ferromagnetic to attract.  Weighting the bottom of the curtain helps.  Or let the bottom outside of the curtain get wet, and use surface tension to get it to stick to the tub or wall instead of you.

  2. i think your leg hairs are too dry

  3. It has to do with air circulation. If you close the bathroom door, then turn on the shower, the warm water causes the air to start circulating, and since it can't go OUT, it just goes around, and pushes the shower curtain from the bottom. You can prevent this by either leaving the bathroom door open or getting a shower curtain that has little magnets in the bottom seam.

The shower curtain sticks to your legs because they're wet by the time the air starts moving fast enough to push the shower curtain inward.

  4. Static charge. plain and simple.
