An introduction of the newest sensation of golf: Ariya Jutanugarn
Ariya Jutanugarn, a Thai golfer, has made headlines with her outstanding performance on the amateur circuit.
The young teenage golfer is considered to be one of the new women’s golf stars in the making. It came as no surprise to the fans when she won the American Junior Golf Association’s 2011 Rolex Junior Player of the Year award.
The Thai golfer raised the level of her game as she entered last year’s season. She made a great impact on the women’s circuit with an impressive show on the tour.
When she started off with her season, the 15-year-old made the cut in the first major of the year. During the tournament, she was caddied by her elder sister, which gave the Thai golfer the much needed confidence.
Her performance in the tournament was appreciable. She finished the championship in the 25th place which she shared with other players.
As her year went on, the Thai improved with the passing of every event, she won five times on the United States soil. These wins include the U.S. Girls Junior and the Rolex Girl’s Junior Championship.
With such a fantastic run on the tour, the teenager went on to participate in the U.S. Women’s Open. However, she failed to make the cut.
Her 2012 season started off with a thrilling challenge, in which her sister beat her, in the South Atlantic Ladies Amateur Championship.
She is currently ranked second in the World Amateur Rankings. With the variety and charisma she brings into the game, the Thai golfer is bound to become an excellent prospect for women’s golf.
The headstrong golfer led the final qualifying round of the Ladies European Tour’s Lalla Aicha Tour School.
She was exposed to golf at a very young age. Her parents own a golf shop in Thailand. Ariya said that when she was five years old, she started driving the ball.
The young Thai golfer gives all the credit to her parents who were always supportive and encouraged her to pick up the clubs.
Ariya was asked a series of questions based on her likes and dislikes, basically just getting an insight of the golfer who is making headlines on the golfing circuit.
The interview had its share of humour and Ariya replied, acknowledging the questions.
When asked about the three items she would like in her possession if she were to be stranded on a desert island, she replied, saying that she would take a large quantity of food, with that a flash and clothing.
She also shared that she hates singing and is very bad at it.
The Thai golfer is a big fan of food and she expressed that if there is one thing which she would like to have an unlimited storage of, without a doubt, it would be food!
The Thai golfer also plays tennis but she said in a statement that, even though tennis is a fun sport, it requires plenty of physical endurance.
Asian players have been dominating the women’s circuit for a long time now. This fact, however, does not hold true for the men’s circuit.
More than half of the women golfers in the top hundred ranking are Asian women. They seem to be mentally and physically stronger than their European counterparts.
Ariya is also one of the most promising young golfers on the tour. To make a name for herself, she will have to play a consistent game and, along the way, win tournaments as well.
