An investigatory unit especially for Bjarne Riis
After an excellent work done by the USADA, revealing the biggest cycling fraud in the history of the sport, Anti-Doping Denmark is planning to develop a similar committee to investigate Bjarne Riis.
Owner of the Danish side, Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank was named by several cyclists during the recent investigation.
USADA’s reasoned decision into Lance Armstrong consisted of 1000 page evidence which pointed out that the former Tour de France winner cheated to boost his performance throughout many years in his career.
As many as 25 cyclists recorded their testimony against Armstrong including 11 of his former teammates.
These cyclists include, These eleven (11) teammates of Lance Armstrong, in alphabetical order, are Frankie Andreu, Michael Barry, Tom Danielson, Tyler Hamilton, George Hincapie, Floyd Landis, Levi Leipheimer, Stephen Swart, Christian Vande Velde, Jonathan
Vaughters and David Zabriskie.
All the offenders were disqualified from their previous victories for the respective times and were also banned from professional cycling, but the penalty was reduced after their cooperation with the authorities.
However, Armstrong who refused to confess to charges and lingered on the investigation received the maximum blow; all his previous victories through 1999 onwards have been stripped-off along with an implementation of a life ban.
Tyler Hamilton’s recent publication, ‘The Secret Race ‘ was of great help in during the investigation as it also points a finger on current Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank owner, Bjarne Riis.
Add Director Lone Hansen briefed to Sporten.dk that formation of new anti-doping unit is to determine that the sport of cycling is clean and its first task will be to investigate Bjarne Riis.
“What we are discussing right now is whether it is appropriate to create a device that can investigate such cases,” ADD director Lone Hansen told Sporten.dk
“We are trying to manage how much it costs to operate such a device, among other things”.
“It may be necessary for us to use forms of indirect intelligence to catch doping cheats. With the way the athletes are doping today, where drugs are such a short time in the body, and new methods are developed all the time”.
Only time will tell, if Riis manages to dodge the bullet this time as there is absolutely no room for dopers and cheaters in any form of the game.
