  1. I assume that you are in the UK from your spelling of the word 'offence' No offences here for which a warrant can be issued are staute barred after 6 months. The only ones that are are minor traffic offences for which a 'notice of intention to prosecute' must be issued within 6 months.

  2. Once a warrant is raised then it now stays live till its dealt with, this takes into effect the people who go abroad, hide etc.

The 6 month rule used to be for issuing a summons, that has also changed.

If you committed an offence and were unknown then after 6 months you were home free, now once the police have identified a suspect the clock starts. So there is a greater chance of getting them.

If the crime is of a serious nature then that person will be circulated as wanted and the clock would stop.

  3. The time limit is from the time of the offense until the time the person is charged. Issuing a warrant is considered charging,so the time limits no longer apply.
