An uncertain future awaits jockey, Frankie Dettori
Frankie Dettori’s choice of riding a non-Godolphin horse might have been the last after the Longchamp race, and it of course will have a lasting impact on his relations with the retainers, Godolphin. Not winning the race while selecting Camelot as the mount
can no longer reverse the damage that has been done.
“I felt the long season took its toll,” said Dettori. “When I asked him he took me straight there on the bridle, but the signs were already there. He was like a horse who has run once too often and the ground just caught me out quicker.” The jockey commented
in the favour of his ride.
Frankie Dettori receives a retention cheque from the employer even when he is not riding for the Godolphin banner. The gesture of course suggests that if the French rider is not racing in the royal blues, then he also does not have to join teams with the
opposition.
Frankie can no longer tag it as just another mistake as something as big as the Arc, which even had a Godolphin entry contesting, is impossible to ignore and cast away, and will for sure is bound to have far reaching repercussions.
The incident had already presented itself back in 2005 when Frankie Dettori opted for the Coolmore bred, Scorpion, to race in the Group 1 St Leger at Doncaster, rather the first priority to race the Godolphin owned, Motivator, in the Irish Champion Stakes.
Back then the dust settled due to the apology of being inconsiderate, which was later followed up by permission, even if half hearted.
This time around the situation has gone beyond repair, and the rivalry between the Coolmore Studs and Godolphin operation that was expected by many to have simmered down now seems to burning under a furnace.
His purple and white colours against royal blues in the Arc that was won by neither, has made the situation gloomy and Frankie Dettori getting pale about his future chances.
Both have refrained from putting up the stances yet, but there are definitely some exchanges expected which can even end on the harsh end and cost the jockey his future. He had been with the facility nearly ever since the commencement of the blue brand.
