An unearned HR???

I was checking my stat tracker and and am playing against Cincinnati's starting pitcher Volquez. He allowed 2 HR but has only been accounted for 1 earned run.

"In baseball, an earned run is any run for which the pitcher is held accountable"

How is a pitcher not accountable for a HR???

  1. An unearned run can also be any run scored after what should have been the third out.

Example - pitcher gets first 2 outs, then an error allows the 3rd man to reach base. The pitcher could then give up any number of runs in that inning, and they ALL would be unearned because the inning should have been over.

Your definition is very vague. A good summary, but not completely correct.

  2. I noticed that too. There were 2 errors right before it so that accounts for the runners on base but not the HR. Maybe its a scoring error or he didnt give up the HR. A relief pitcher came in right after.

I hope it doesnt get fixed. I have Volquez lol

  3. Only thing I can think of is an error on an inside the park home run.  True an error allowing a runner on will cause that runner's run to be unearned, but another hitter hitting a home run would not cause the home run to be unearned.

  4. itll get fixed soon enough, that is a common error in statistics.

  5. maybe is just a written error

  6. typo
